Over the last few days there has been an increase of calls to our dispatch from concerned citizens, stemming from phone scams. The scams vary slightly and are sometime automated or have an actual voice. They may sound something like, "you are overdue in your taxes and local law enforcement will be coming to arrest you if you don't immediately call ###-###-####, and pay your outstanding debt."
These are scams. Law Enforcement does not make arrests for taxes or past due utilities. Hang up, take no action, do not call them back, and do not make any payments to them. You do not need to contact us unless you sent them payment or gave personal information to them like date of birth, social security number, credit card numbers, or bank account numbers.
